Tuesday – Thursday 2-4 July, Goethe Institut, Tel Aviv

12:00 – 16:00 musicological seminars w. Prof. Christopher Fox (England), Dr. Assaf Shelleg (Israel)
During this year’s festival, Tzlil Meudcan will be holding musicological seminars for a selected group of graduate and post-graduate students. While these roundtables are designed for the musicological group, their discussions are open for the public. The sessions will be directed by Prof. Christopher Fox (Brunel University) and Dr. Assaf Shelleg (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem).
The musicological sessions will be held on July 2-4, 12-4pm, at the Goethe Institute in Tel Aviv. Each day will be dedicated to a different topic: The first day will deal with the notion of contemporaneity in art in general and art music in particular; the second day, in accordance with this year’s festival theme, will deal with alternative quartet while focusing on Stockhausen’s 1964 Mikrophonie I and Saunders 1998 Quarter for accordion, clarinet, double bass, and piano; the third and last day will discuss the challenge that contemporary compositional aesthetics pose to contemporary musicology. The last segment of this session will feature a guest talk by Prof. Lev Koblyakov (Parkland College) on the evolution of musical language and formal thinking in modern and contemporary musics.
